Nursing students should develop study plans that prepare them for their national certification and licensing examinations. The plans should help them to identify their strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for continuous growth. Students should also explore resources to enable them to achieve their set objectives. Therefore, this paper reflects my performance in the preparation examinations, goals and tasks, and resources I will use to attain my goals.

Summary of the Practice Exam Results

The practice exam results gave me insight into my strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities. I discovered from my performance that my understanding of ear and nose conditions is adequate. I can diagnose, rule out conditions, and develop care plans for patients with ear and nose conditions. I can use advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills to address complex patient problems of the nose and ear (Yeo et al., 2020). I also learned from the practice exam results that my understanding of the pathophysiological processes of most conditions is adequate. I can connect the relationship among pathophysiological processes to treatment needs, plans, and anticipated evaluation outcomes (Oermann et al., 2024). I am confident I can provide safe and efficient care to patients with ear and nose conditions.

I discovered my weaknesses from the practice exam results. First, my pharmacology knowledge is still inadequate. I failed most questions on the pharmacological management of the various conditions. I should dedicate my time to reading the pharmacotherapy for the different conditions to improve my performance in this area. I also learned I have challenges in determining age-appropriate screening tools for case assessment and treatment evaluation. Screening tools help diagnose conditions and assess treatment response. I performed average on the questions on screening tools. I should read more on evidence-based screening tools used by family nurse practitioners (Al-Alawi et al., 2020). I also performed average on ear and throat practice examinations. The performance indicates my inadequate knowledge of these topics. As a result, I will dedicate more time to studying ear and throat conditions, their assessment, and treatment.

Goals and Tasks

  1. By the end of the next two weeks, I should score above 70% in all pharmacotherapy-related assessment tests
  2. I will dedicate at least 30 minutes daily to reading pharmacological management of different conditions
  3. I will seek my instructor’s guidance on the best approach to studying pharmacotherapy
  4. I will read and write notes on the various pharmacotherapeutic options for conditions likely to be tested in the licensure exam
  5. By the end of the next two weeks, I should score at least 80% in ear and throat conditions
  6. I will dedicate at least 30 minutes daily to reading ear and throat conditions
  7. I will do at least 75 practice questions on ear and throat on alternate days to assess my understanding
  8. I will develop and stick to a study plan focusing on ear and throat conditions as my weak areas
  9. By the end of the two weeks, I should be proficient in selecting age-appropriate screening tools, interpreting their results, and using them for clinical decision-making
  10. I will dedicate at least 30 minutes daily to research and read about different screening tools used across age groups
  11. I will write notes on the tools and link them to their conditions to increase my understanding
  12. I will do at least 50 practice questions on alternate days to assess my understanding of age-appropriate screening tools

Timetable
